The Cercamp Monastery ( lat . Carus Campus ) is a former Cistercian abbey in the municipality of Frévent in the Pas-de-Calais department , Hauts-de-France , in France . The monastery is located around 14 km south of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise .

history

The monastery was founded in 1137 by Count Hugo III. Candavène von Saint-Pol was donated as a daughter of the Primary Abbey of Pontigny . The first building of the monastery was completed in 1147, the church, the burial place of the Counts of Saint-Pol , followed from 1150. In 1558 the preliminary negotiations for the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis took place in the monastery . Cardinal Mazarin and Alexandre Angélique de Talleyrand-Périgord were among the abbots of the monastery . The monastery was rebuilt by 1775. During the French Revolution it was dissolved in 1790, then sold and largely demolished. Today it houses an educational facility.

Buildings and plant

The horseshoe-shaped entrance pavilion and the guest building from 1740 have been preserved. Small remains of the 94 m long church have survived. The two-storey guest building ( Monument historique since 1946), which is known as the castle and built by the architect Raoul Coigniard, has a protruding, three-axis central projection .
