The Humburg near Düren ( Wallerfangen municipality in the Saarlouis district in Saarland ) is a Salian castle site on a foothill of the Saargau .
history
Historically not tangible (the name Humburg is post-medieval) it is probably the seat of the Wallerfanger Counts Egilolf and Giselbert , who are mentioned in documents in the 10th and 11th centuries. Only small remnants of the hill fort have survived ; most of the castle area also fell victim to a sandstone quarry. A wide moat protected the attack side. Directly behind it, the foundations of a rectangular stone tower that can be dated to the 11th century could be established. Accordingly, it was a Salian tower castle . The other buildings were probably only made of wood.
There is a medieval copper tunnel near the castle site.
