Humlegården is a park in the Östermalm district of Stockholm .

The park was originally built under Johann III. laid out as a royal vegetable garden. Fruit trees, aromatic herbs and later also hops (Swedish: Humle ) grew here , which gave the park its name. After that, the site fell into disrepair until King Adolf Friedrich bought the garden from the city at the end of the 18th century. He had the park upgraded again as befits its status. Over the years there have been theater squares, animal enclosures, amusement parks and inns here. In 1869 the park was opened to the public. The park has been home to the Royal Library since 1878 , which is also Sweden's national library .
