Breeding association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A breeding association is an association in which breeders and keepers of animals come together.

The aim of a breeding association is generally the improvement of a racial or more races or the preservation of a race. To achieve this goal, a breeding goal is decided.

Breeding associations keep herd books (also called breeding books or breeding stud books ) in which the performance and pedigrees of the animals are recorded. They endeavor to exchange information among breeders and to market the breeding animals.

In many countries, breeding associations for farm animals are subsidized by the state because improving animal breeding is a state interest.
