Hundsvær

Hundsvær is an island in the Borgundfjord in Norway and belongs to the municipality of Ålesund in the Norwegian province of Møre og Romsdal .

It is located near the north bank of the fjord just before the entrance to Ålesund harbor. Southwest is the Skerry Tyskholmen , south Galtene . The narrow Svinholmen peninsula extends to the east .

The rocky island has an east-west extension of about 450 meters, plus Svinholmen with about 250 meters. In north-south direction it reaches a width of about 250 meters. At the highest point it rises up to 32.5 meters. Hundsvær is partly forested. There is a jetty on the east bank. There is also a small amount of development in this area.

Sheep have recently been kept on the island from autumn 2005 onwards. However, the keeping had to be given up in 2009 by order of the authorities because of the poor condition of the animals.
