Huo Yuanjia

Huo Yuanjia ( Chinese  霍元甲 , Pinyin Huò Yuánjiǎ , born January 18, 1868 in Xiaonanhe, in Jinghai County near Tianjin , † August 9, 1910 in Shanghai , Empire of China ) was a Chinese martial artist .

Life

He was a co-founder of the Jing Wu Sports Federation , a martial arts school in Shanghai , and was a master in Mízōngyì , a martial art. During the period when Western influence in China rose, he held his own in spectacular fights against several foreign fighters and remained undefeated. Because of his heroic status, legends and myths about events in his life are difficult to tell from the true facts.

The movie Fist of Fury starring Bruce Lee and the remake Fist of Legend starring Jet Li both build on Huo's life and tell the story of a fictional student of his. In the film Fearless (also with Jet Li) Huo himself is the focus.
