The Hurd Dome ( Spanish Glaciar Hurd , in the United Kingdom Hurd Ice Cap ) is an approximately 375 m high ice dome on Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It occupies the central part of the Hurd Peninsula .
The name was given in 1995 by a Spanish Antarctic expedition, the name of which was transferred to its current form in 2004 by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names . It is named after Thomas Hannaford Hurd (1747-1823), from 1808 to 1823 second hydrographer of the British Admiralty and member of the Board of Longitude .
