Hussar (vehicle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Husar (type designation ÖAF HA 2 - 90 ) is an all-wheel drive vehicle that was built by the Austrian company ÖAF .

Husar HA 2-90, built in 1971

The vehicle was developed in cooperation with the armed forces. It was intended to replace the Dodge WC series vehicles that were part of the US Army . The first three prototypes of the Hussar were built in 1966. Production ran from 1968 to 1969. 136 pieces were produced.

Manufacturers of fire fighting vehicles were also interested. But after the competition model from Steyr-Daimler-Puch , the Pinzgauer , made the race in the armed forces , it was never built in series.

The vehicle had two axles with all-wheel drive. It was designed for a payload of 3 tons when used on the road; when used off-road, 2 tons could be loaded. In addition, the towing of trailers or light guns was provided.

Its climbing ability was up to 60 percent without a trailer and up to 40 percent with a trailer.

It was powered by a MAN four-cylinder diesel engine with direct injection. It had a displacement of 4.69 liters and delivered 90 hp . Either a ZF or a Steyr transfer case was installed as the longitudinal transmission .

A fixed driver's cab was built on the two side members . The suspension of the wheels consisted of leaf springs .
