Hussein Habasch or Husên M. Hebeş (born September 23, 1948 in Jakmak-Saghir in the Afrin district , Kurdistan in Syria ) is a Syrian translator, poet and linguist of Kurdish ethnicity.

Life

Hussein Habasch began writing poetry in Kurdish and Arabic in 1970 .

He studied journalism at the Lomonossow University in Moscow and received his doctorate there in 1983. In 1984 Hussein Habasch moved to Germany. He lives and works in Bonn .

In 2000 the author began teaching Kurdish native speakers at the city of Bonn. From the 2008 summer semester to the 2010 summer semester, he was also a lecturer in Kurdish at the Institute for Oriental and Asian Studies at the University of Bonn . Habasch works as a translator from Arabic, Russian, English and German into Kurdish. Since November 2011 he has dealt with the Avesta and Parthi languages and translates them into Kurdish.

He published more than 18 books and numerous articles and gave numerous lectures in Germany and abroad. Some of his poems have been translated into 18 languages. He also took part in numerous international poetry festivals, such as B. 2010 at the international Poetry Festival in Istanbul .

Habasch was president of the Kurdish PEN Center from 1993 to 1996. He is a member of the Association of German Writers (VS).

Since August 2017, the poet Habasch has been translating the poem of the week ITHACA into Kurdish, which is published by the magazine “Raman” in Erbil ( Iraqi Kurdistan Region ).
