The Hydrographer Islands ( Russian Острова Гидрографов Ostrowa Hydrografow , German , hydrographer islands ' ) are a distinctive group of islands off the coast of the East Antarctic Enderbylands . They are located on Khmara Bay immediately south of the Sakellari Peninsula .
Participants of a Soviet Antarctic expedition, which the group also named, photographed them in March 1957. Further aerial photographs were taken in December 1957 during a campaign as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1965.
