Hyginus is an impact crater on the front of the moon on the border between Sinus Medii and Mare Vaporum , northeast of the Triesnecker crater and northwest of Agrippa . The relatively small crater lies roughly in the middle of the Rima Hyginus moon groove , which is otherwise largely straight. The crater floor is level.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Roman scholar Gaius Iulius Hyginus .
