Hymir
Hymir ( Old Norse for "the dark one") is a giant in Norse mythology . According to the Hymir song (Hymiskviða) , which is part of the Song Edda , he is the father of the god Tyr - Snorri Sturluson , on the other hand, names Odin as his father in his prose Edda .
According to the hymn song , the giant has a kettle big enough for the sea giant Aegir to brew beer for all gods. Thor also takes Hymir to fish. The god casts his fishing rod on the high seas with an ox's head as bait to catch the Midgard snake . The monster bites, but fights so hard against being pulled up that Thor breaks one leg through the ship's bottom. The giant is frightened and cuts the fishing line with his knife so that the prey escapes. Both arrive on land alive, according to another version Thor kills the Hymir.
