Anthem of the Estonian SSR

The hymn of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic (Estonian Eesti Nõukogude Sotsialistliku Vabariigi hümn ) was the communist "national anthem" during the occupation of Estonia by the Soviet Union . It was in use in the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1945 to 1991 .

Text and music

The music was composed by Gustav Ernesaks . The text is by Johannes Semper . It was the only hymn of a Soviet Socialist Republic that did not include any reference to the Russian people. On July 21, 1956, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian SSR , the anthem was adopted in the version below. At the same time, a reference to Josef Stalin was deleted in the third stanza .

Jää kestma, Kalevite kange rahvas,
yes seisa kaljuna, me kodumaa!
Egg vaibund kannatustes sinu vahvus,
end läbi sajanditest murdsid sa
yes tõusid õitsvaks sotsialismimaaks,
et päikene su päevadesse paista saaks.
Nüüd huuga, tehas, vili, nurmel vooga,
sirp, lõika, alasile, haamer, löö!
Nõukogu elu, tuksu võimsa hooga,
too õnne rahvale, me tubli töö!
Me Liidu rahvaste ja riike seas

Живи, сын Калева - народ наш славный,
И стой, отчизна наша, как скала.
Сквозь все страдания веков бесправных

Воспрянула в цвету для счастья и побед.
Могучим колосом цветите нивы!
Жни, серп, и, молот, бей, гуди, завод!
В стране советской каждый будь счастливым -
Упорный труд нам счастье принесет.
В союзе братском пред тобой простор -
Эстония, шагай в строю своих сестер!
Ты знамя Ленина несешь святое,

German translation

Live on, you mighty Calevid people,
and stand as a rock, our homeland!
Your courage is not paralyzed in suffering
you have made your way through centuries,
and rise as a prosperous socialist country,
so that the sun can shine on your days.
Now tose, factory, grain, surging in the hallway,
Sickle, cut, on the anvil, hammer, hit!
Soviet life, may it strike with a mighty swing,
our hard work will bring happiness to the people!
Among the peoples and states of our Union
you step, Estonia, in the steadfast row of the first!
You carry the Lenin flag high up
and boldly walk the path of communism.
