Anthem of the Karelo-Finnish SSR
After the invasion of Finland by the Soviet Union and the forced cession of parts of West Karelia , it was Soviet policy to emphasize not only the political but also the cultural independence of these areas from Finland . With the establishment of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic on March 31, 1940, the necessity arose to create a separate anthem for this republic of the Soviet Union. In 1945 the tender took place in the context of a competition. The anthem was officially adopted in the early 1950s.
Text and music
The Finnish-language text is from Armas Äikiä , the music from Karl Rautio . The text is still heavily influenced by the Second World War . With the dissolution of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic and its incorporation into the Russian SFSR on July 16, 1956, the anthem was de facto abolished.
