Hynek Fajmon (born May 17, 1968 in Nymburk ) is a Czech politician and was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2014 for the Občanská democická strana , as a member of the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats .

Life

Fajmon received his MA in 1992 from the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague . He later attended the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna and the London School of Economics and worked as a diplomat from 1994 to 1997. In 1998 he acted as an advisor to the Minister of Defense on matters relating to NATO.

Fajmon's political career began in 1990 when he became a member of the Lysá nad Labem City Council , an office he still holds. In 1991 he became a member of Občanská Demokratická strana and has been a member of the party's executive council since 2001. After being a member of the Lysá nad Labem council since 1996, Fajmon was the city's mayor from 1998 to 2001.

From 2001 to 2004 Fajmon was a member of the Czech House of Representatives . During the same period he was a member of the Committee for European Integration. From 2003 Fajmon was also an observer in the European Parliament.

From 2004 to 2014 Fajmon was during the EU accession of the Czech Republic Member of the European Parliament.
