Hyperchromasia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hyperchromasia (composition from the Greek hyper 'over' and chroma 'color') is a term from cell biology and histology and describes the increased ability to stain cell structures, especially the cell nucleus ( nuclear hyperchromasia ), using dyes. Among other things, it is a feature of many tumor cells ( atypia ) in the cytodiagnostic assessment, but is also observed in other contexts (e.g. inflammatory diseases).
