Hyun Song Shin ( Korean : 신현 송 , * 1959 ) is a South Korean financial theorist and financial scientist who researched the field of global games . Since May 1, 2014, he has been Chief Economist at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel for five years . Shin is among the most frequently mentioned economists on CONCLUSION .

biography

Hyun Song Shin taught at the London School of Economics from 2000 to 2005 before going to Princeton University . Its scientific basis comes from financial theory, not macroeconomics , which has advantages in the analysis of financial markets and their participants. In 2006 he became a Hughes Rogers Professor of Economics at Princeton . In 2010 he was an advisor to South Korea's President Lee Myung-bak in the field of international economics, particularly in relation to the G20 summit in Seoul 2010 .

He holds a Ph.D. and MPhil in Economics from Oxford University ( Nuffield College ) and a BA in Philosophy , Politics and Economics from the same university. Shin, along with Claudio Borio , is a leading proponent of the view that when analyzing international capital movements it is very important to look at gross capital flows and not just the financial account balances as is done in traditional considerations.

Shin is the author of numerous publications on monetary policy, banking, financial, and financial stability issues.
