Iō Kuroda

Iō Kuroda ( Japanese 黒 田 硫黄 , Kuroda Iō ; born January 5, 1971 in Sapporo , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

Kuroda studied law at Hitotsubashi University and published his first manga in the manga magazine Afternoon in 1993 after completing his studies with Ka, nanten, kuma, touasa . With Dai-Nippon Tengu-tō Ekotoba he drew his first long comic in 1994, which also meant his breakthrough. In the years that followed, he became known for short stories, including a remake of Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis , and drew several manga for alternative magazines such as Comic Cue . In 2000 he started with Nasu , which was also implemented as an anime . His Sexy Voice and Robo is about a young person who has the ability to change her voice at will and thus gets involved in some criminal cases. For this two-volume work he received the Media Arts Award from the Japanese Ministry of Culture in 2002 .

Kuroda's drawing technique is particularly outstanding, it only requires very few screen foils and is characterized by detailed hatching and a strong contrast between black and white. Kuroda also uses brushes in addition to the pencils commonly used in Mangaka, creating dynamic effect lines. His stories, which mostly take place in an unusual setting, are aimed at adult readers and can be assigned to his genre.
