ishmed (old spelling IS-H * med ) is a clinical information system from Cerner that docks with the SAP IS-H industry solution for healthcare facilities and thus results in a hospital information system (HIS). The name is made up of "IS" for SAP industry solutions (Industry Solution) and "H" for healthcare - that is, health care and health care.

According to the manufacturer, the software is used in more than 500 hospitals and operators.

history

IS-H * med has been developed by the Society for Systems Research and Services in Health Care (GSD), SAP and T-Systems Austria since the 1990s . In 2007 GSD was taken over by Siemens Medical Solutions , in 2009 Siemens bought the 50% stake in T-Systems. In February 2015, Cerner took over the Health Services division from Siemens, and with it the product that has now been renamed ishmed.

construction

In addition to other providers, the product, together with SAP as the ERP basic software - the R3 or earlier also R2, as middleware - is widely used.

The system is developed in the proprietary programming language ABAP . It offers interfaces for expanding the existing functionalities and for connecting third-party software.

After the adaptation to the customer-specific features and the delivery of this adapted configuration, the lifelong maintenance and the connection of other medical subsystems - such as RIS , LIS etc. The import of data from medical devices provides so-called vital signs .

A so-called PMD (parameterized medical documents) framework offers the possibility of developing input masks which, in addition to persistence and input logic, integrate mechanisms for document authenticity. There are two generator versions for the PMD. With generator version 1, the developer still has to adapt very strongly to the framework logic. Generator version 2 offers a more clearly defined interface in the form of overloaded methods, although the framework does not enforce object-oriented programming.

On the application side, the integrated clinical workstation can be structured through its views. These views correspond to task areas, which in turn are assigned to certain application areas. The views are assigned to professional groups that have certain roles. Conversely, it is therefore possible to use roles to define occupational groups that can actually be assigned to individual or recurring occupations in the company. This role concept enables a comprehensive mapping of the users and their authorizations in the system. Concepts from object-oriented programming , such as reuse through inheritance, can avoid redundancies, which increases maintainability and facilitates the transition from the conceptual level to the implementation level.

particularities

The system can be read as source code in plain text thanks to the ABAP programming language used (an object-oriented language and 4th generation language ) - which is translated into an intermediate code. There is no freely available user and developer documentation. Analogous to the key user concept for system users, documentation and training courses are offered by the manufacturer in seminars for developers.
