The IBM house is a 9-storey office building on Ernst-Reuter-Platz in Berlin-Charlottenburg . It was the headquarters of IBM in Berlin next to the building in Berlin-Marienfelde . The office building is a listed building monument . It is connected to the neighboring high-rise building by a 2-storey transverse building. The concrete relief on the eastern narrow side was developed from the company logo. At that time, the administration building was considered to be particularly architecturally successful due to the dynamic effect of the facade and the design of the entrance.

history

The building was built in 1960/61 by Rolf Gutbrod and Hermann Kiess as a data center for IBM. It was opened by IBM in 1962. After IBM moved out, the building was partially modernized between 2002 and 2006 and converted for renting by floor. The communications agency CB.e . was the first tenant in the building. The agency still uses around 1500 m². It uses a former computer room on the 1st and 2nd floors, on the ground floor as a showroom and for events as well as other conference and common rooms. In 2019, the architecture studio CAMA A built a gallery on the first floor of the building. The gallery is named with the name Efremidis Gallery . On June 28, 2019, the building was bought by the value-add buyer Commodus Berlin / Munich.

building

The nine-storey, relatively wide reinforced concrete skeleton structure is characterized by large office windows with white, outwardly curved alumail facing. A half-story porch extends to the left on the ground floor. Above it, pillars support the first floor. The four meter wide staircase in front of the elevated entrance protrudes several meters. The building is connected to the neighboring high-rise building at Ernst-Reuter-Platz by a two-story transverse building. At the rear of the building in Schillerstraße there are two-story car parking spaces.
