ICOM Austria

ICOM Austria is the Austrian national committee of the International Council of Museums ( ICOM , English International Council of Museums ).

ICOM Austria, based in Vienna , was founded in 1948, has more than 1,900 members, making it the largest Austrian organization for museums and museum professionals. The tasks consist of taking on an advisory role at the federal, state and municipal contact points responsible for museum matters. In addition, ICOM Austria sees itself as a network of museum experts who bring together institutions and specialists and want to inform them about international research trends and the latest developments in the museum sector.

The secretariat is currently located in the Jewish Museum Vienna . In December 2019, Bettina Leidl, Director of the Kunst Haus Wien , was elected President of ICOM Austria to succeed Danielle Spera .

Together with the Austrian Museum Association , ICOM Austria awards the Austrian Museum Seal of Approval to museums.
