ICOM Germany

ICOM Germany e. V. is the German national committee of the International Council of Museums ( ICOM , English International Council of Museums ).

General

ICOM Germany was founded on March 19, 1953 and with over 5000 members is the largest of the 118 national committees of ICOM and the largest organization of museums and museum specialists in Germany. ICOM Germany represents the interests of museums and museum experts in public life in dialogue and cooperation with other cultural and museum organizations.

ICOM Germany and the International Council of Museums ICOM see their work in cooperation with UNESCO in protecting the cultural assets stored in museums and in putting them in the service of society. Developed by ICOM and globally recognized ethical guidelines for museums (Code of Ethics for Museums) form the basis of the professional work of museums.

In addition, in February 2006 , ICOM Germany, together with the German Museum Association , published the handout Standards for Museums , which offers an orientation for qualified museum work in the more than 6,300 museums in Germany .
