During the terrorist attacks against Israel in the 1990s, for example, the IDF-D9 was used to operate without losses in urban areas that were heavily mined and equipped with booby traps. The aim was also to level the houses in which armed terrorists were hiding or in which the families of suicide bombers lived. In 2002 the vehicles were used in Operation Schutzschild .
In 2010 the IDF-D9 vehicles were used in the largest forest fire in the country 's history.

On 16 March 2003, the US activist was Rachel Corrie of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement in trying a house demolitions to be prevented by the Israeli military, rolled over and died later of his injuries.
In 2014 the IDF Caterpillar D9 was inscribed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most heavily armored bulldozer in the world.
