IEEE 802

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The IEEE 802 is an IEEE project that deals with standards for local area networks ( LAN ). The number 802 is sometimes associated with the start of the project in February 1980, but was simply the next free identification number of the IEEE.

The project defines network standards on layers 1 and 2 of the OSI layer model . The security layer is divided into the areas LLC (Logical Link Control) and MAC (Media Access Control).

The IEEE 802 working groups also provide advice on how to embed the systems in a meaningful way in an overall context ( network management , internetworking , ISO interaction).

Various working groups have been formed within the 802 project, which also deal with new aspects as required.
