The IKA Werke are a company laboratory equipment, analytical and process technology .
history
Today's IKA-Werke was founded in Cologne in 1910 as a trading company for pharmaceutical supplies Janke & Kunkel OHG . From 1920 the company began to develop and manufacture laboratory and measuring devices, electrolysis devices and other equipment for university and industrial laboratories. The company was completely destroyed in a bombing raid in 1942 and found a new location in Staufen im Breisgau . Some of the employees also moved to Staufen. After the war, foreign trade relations intensified. The management found the product and brand name Janke & Kunkel too cumbersome in non-German-speaking areas, and so it was replaced by IKA in 1948 . Economic growth and reconstruction in the post-war years increased the need for industrial machines. In 1955, IKA responded by expanding the existing product range to include industrial machines for the areas of dispersing and kneading. The first foreign subsidiary was founded in the USA in 1985 .
After another increase in sales in 2008, the company was hit by the global economic crisis in early 2009 . Due to the sharp drop in sales and the expected loss, the company announced job cuts. Despite some of the employees being absent, the management refused to negotiate. In 2012, sales exceeded 100 million euros for the first time
