The Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) is the Mexican national institute for anthropology and history founded in 1939 .

tasks

The main task of INAH is the (pre-) historical, anthropological, paleontological and archaeological research of the Mexican cultural heritage as well as its preservation, protection and promotion. The work of the 31 regional INAH centers throughout Mexico is coordinated by the technical secretariat (Secretaría Técnica) . Several thousand archaeological sites and over 110,000 historically significant monuments from the 16th to 19th centuries are managed across the country.

The INAH also publishes numerous publications, brochures and books. The most famous of the over 100 museums maintained by INAH is the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City .
