An ISDN connection unit (IAE) is a connection box for terminal devices on the S 0 bus in ISDN installations. IAE have one or two four-pole modular jacks (also called Western jacks , modular jack or incorrectly called RJ-45 ). They replaced the TAE 8 and TAE 8 + 4 introduced in 1987 .

Executions

The IAE sockets are available in the following versions, surface-mounted (AP) and flush-mounted (UP) for installation in flush-mounted sockets or cable duct systems:

IAE designation Number of sockets Socket circuit Contacts per socket
without terminal resistance with fixed terminal resistance with switchable terminal resistor
IAE 1 × 8 (4) IAE 1 × 8 (4) R IAE 1 × 8 (4) p 1 - 4th
IAE 2 × 8 (4) IAE 2 × 8 (4) R IAE 2 × 8 (4) p 2 parallel 4th
IAE 8/8 (4) IAE 8/8 (4) R IAE 8/8 (4) p 2 Cut 4th

The predecessor of the IAE in the national ISDN (1TR6) of Deutsche Telekom (installed until 1994) were 8-pin TAE sockets.

Wiring

Modular sockets have eight possible contact positions , of which IAE only have contacts in the four inner positions (8P4C). The connection terminals of the IAE have the designations "1a", "1b", "2a" and "2b" and are therefore a special wiring of the UAE 2 × 8 (4) . They are connected to the terminals on the NTBA with the numbers and letters in reverse order.

Socket contact Terminal designation
IAE NTBA
1 unequipped
2 unequipped
3 2a a2
4th 1a a1
5 1b b1
6th 2 B b2
7th unequipped
8th unequipped

There IAE sockets into which the termination of an S 0 -BUS required 100 Ω - termination resistors are installed already (see table above). If the terminating resistors are retrofitted, one resistor is connected between terminal 1a and terminal 1b, the second between terminals 2a and 2b.
