The industry initiative accompanied the technological change from the incandescent lamp to energy-efficient light sources as part of the Ecodesign Directive with campaigns, among other things . Licht.de provides information to consumers, professional users, planners and architects with traditional media work and online offers. One focus is on educating people about future technologies such as Human Centric Lighting (HCL). The industry initiative operates an information portal on the Internet and publishes the "licht.wissen" series. It currently comprises 21 titles. Cross-cutting issues such as LEDs and the effect of light on people are also dealt with. The licht.forum series of publications and other licht.de publications such as guidelines appear on current topics. In 1970, the association founded the Fördergemeinschaft Gutes Licht (FGL), which was renamed licht.de in 2007. 130 member companies belong to the initiative. Nevertheless, the initiative claims to provide manufacturer-neutral information.
