International Software Testing Qualifications Board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Software Testing Qualifications Board ( ISTQB ) is a non-profit certification body for software testers made up of voluntary expert bodies . Its aim is to develop standardized training for professional software testers.

history

The Information Systems Examination Board 1998 (ISEB) designed the first version of a standardization for software testers, the "Certified Tester syllabus". The ISTQB was founded in November 2002 by the nations of Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (UK).

The jointly developed tester scheme is one of the most successful qualification schemes worldwide, with an estimated growth rate of around 15,000 certifications per quarter and more than 641,000 certifications in 120 countries (as of December 2018).

In 2010, the British Computer Society (BCS) agreed to a partnership and committed to promoting the ISTQB Certified Tester scheme as a quasi-recognized industry standard.

Certifications

The ISTQB offers the ISTQB Certified Tester as a gradual certification for software testers that are administered by the member boards and external examination providers .

National (German-speaking) boards

There are member boards in 59 countries worldwide (as of December 2018).

At the national level, the ISTQB is represented in the German-speaking area by:

criticism

The question was asked several times whether the ISTQB Foundation Level certification, which consists of a multiple-choice test with questions only about the content of the curriculum of a three-day, purely theoretical course, is actually sufficient evidence of fulfilling the daily requirements practical requirements for a software tester.
