I'm not a serial killer (Original title: I Am Not A Serial Killer ) is a thriller by Dan Wells from 2009. It is the first volume in the John Wayne Cleaver series. The sequel, Mr. Monster , was released in the UK in2010. The third volume, I Don't Want to Kill You , was released in the UK in January 2011 and in the United States in March 2011. The fourth volume, The Devil's Only Friend , was released in June 2015 and the fifth volume, Over Your Dead Body , was released in May 2016.

Wells stated that he wrote the book as a target audience for his age group. Because the book actually treats a teenager as a protagonist, it is more for teenagers. The book was published differently; in the UK it is a youth thriller, in the United States it is for both ages and in Germany it is an adult thriller. The German translation of the book by Jürgen Langowski was published in 2009 under the title I am not a serial killer by Piper Verlag .

The book is about 15-year-old John Wayne Cleaver, a sociopath who lives above his mother's morgue . He fears that becoming a serial killer would be his fate , so he has made a set of rules for himself to keep his murderous impulses in check. Avoiding these impulses becomes difficult when he becomes involved in a series of serial murders as he feels attached to the killer.

criticism

The reviews for I Am Not A Serial Killer have been mostly good, however many reviewers noted that the twist on the book could cause readers to stop reading as different genres get mixed up. Kirkus Reviews praised the book for the utterly believable teenage sociopath (with a heart of gold), dark humor, captivating plottwist, and description of the embalming to freeze any teenager in awe, even if they refuse to admit it.

Movie

Billy O'Brien pushed through a film adaptation with Christopher Lloyd as Crowley , Max Records as John Wayne Cleaver and Laura Fraser as April in the lead roles. Toby Froud worked as a designer for the film and Robbie Ryan was hired as a cameraman .
