I Nyoman Wenten

I Nyoman Wenten (* in Sading , Bali ) is a Balinese musician, dancer and actor.

Wenten comes from a family that has produced musicians and artists for generations. He received his earliest education from his grandfather, who was a puppeteer, actor and dancer. He perfected his traditional education at the Bali Conservatory and the National Music and Dance Academy in Yogyakarta, and earned a PhD in ethnomusicology from UCLA .

He taught a. a. at the National Dance Academies of Bali and Java, the Center for World Music in the USA, San José State University , the University of Wisconsin , the University of Washington , San Francisco State University , the University of California Los Angeles and San Diego and San Diego State University .

He has appeared on tours through the USA and Europe, China, Japan, the Philippines and Mexico and has worked with dancers and choreographers such as Eko Supriyanto , S. Maridi , Benedictus Suharto , Sardono W. Kusumo , Marion Scott and Linda Sohl-Donnell ( Rhapsody in Taps ) and composers like Morton Subotnick , Elaine Barkin , Robert Kyr , George Lewis , L. Subramaniam , Adam Rudolf and Bill Alves .

Since 1989 he has been the artistic director and musical advisor at CMP Records in Germany, overseeing a series of recordings of gamelan music.

Wenten is married to the dancer Nanik Wenten , a daughter of the composer KRT Wasitodiningrat .
