Ian Howard Marshall , often written as I. Howard Marshall ( January 12, 1934 , † December 12, 2015 ) was a Methodist theologian. He was Professor of New Testament Exegesis at the University of Aberdeen , Scotland . He has chaired the Tyndale Fellowship for Biblical and Theological Research and the Fellowship of European Evangelical Theologians (FEET). He was also President of the British New Testament Society . He is the author of numerous publications including New Testament Theology , which won the 2005 Gold Medallion Book Award .

academic career

Marshall was an assistant in Bristol (1960–62), then Methodist preacher in Darlington (1962–64), then lecturer at the University of Aberdeen (1964–77). He was then a "reader" (1977–79) and professor (1979–99), then an honorary professor.

At the “Faculty of Divinity” he was dean (1981–84) and “head” of the department for “Divinity with Religious Studies” (1996–98).

Focus of his research

Marshall's primary interest was in the Gospel of Luke , the Acts of the Apostles , pastoral letters, and some aspects of New Testament theology. He dealt with the Lukan double work as a historical and theological work. He worked on an introduction to the New Testament for students and published a revised version of the Concordance of the Greek New Testament by Moulton and Geden, so that it can be used together with today's editions of the Greek New Testament but also with older editions.
