Ian Munro (Ichthyologist)

Ian Stafford Ross Munro (born May 4, 1919 in Brisbane , Australia ; † January 22, 1994 ) was an Australian ichthyologist who was particularly concerned with the fish of the Indo-Pacific region.

Munro spent his childhood in Brisbane and attended the Brisbane Grammar School there. In 1941 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland with a thesis on the study of the coastline and planktonic community of a mangrove island in Moreton Bay . He then expanded his practical research experience for a few months at the CSIR Division of Fisheries in Cronulla, a suburb of Sydney . He then received a fellowship at the University of Queensland, where he studied aspects of the biology of the torpedo mackerel ( Scomberomorus commerson ).

After a short break in scientific activities due to military service, he was able to continue his work in Brisbane in 1943 and complete his master's thesis on the biology of the sea ​​bream species Acanthopagrus australis and Acanthopagrus butcheri .
