Ian Paterson

Ian Paterson is a British chemist ( organic chemistry , biochemistry ).

Paterson studied at Cambridge, where he received his PhD in 1979 with Ian Fleming , and was a post-doctoral student with Gilbert Stork at Columbia University .

Paterson and his group are concerned with the total synthesis of natural products (especially biologically active substances) and the development of methods for this, especially with the control of stereospecificity (asymmetric reactions, for example with aldoles ).

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Royal Society of Edinburgh . In 2004 he received the Robert Robinson Award from the Royal Society of Chemistry.
