Ian Welsh

Ian Welsh is a former Scottish politician and a member of the Labor Party .

Political career

Welsh joined the Labor Party in his youth. He was involved in Ayrshire regional policy and rose to the political leadership of the South Ayrshire Council Area . As a highly motivated politician, he was seen as one of the future political greats of the country.

In the first Scottish general election in 1999, Welsh first ran for national elections. He applied for the direct mandate of the constituency Ayr and was able to prevail with a margin of 25 votes against the candidate of the Conservatives . This was the closest election result of all constituencies, which is why the ballot papers were counted twice. In the newly created Scottish Parliament , Welsh was not given a major role and took a seat in the back rows. In December of the same year he announced his resignation. As a reason he gave his lack of participation in the government process and the resulting disillusionment and emptiness. He also wants to take care of his family more. In the new elections due in the Ayr constituency, the conservative John Scott prevailed against the SNP candidate Jim Mather . The Labor Party candidate received only 22.1% of the vote, losing 16% on Welsh's result.
