Ian Whittaker

Ian Whittaker is an American production designer and art director who received the Academy Award for Best Production Design at the 1993 Academy Awards .

Life

Whittaker began his career as a production designer at Fetch Us If You Can , John Boorman's first directorial work in 1965 , and has been involved in the production of more than 60 films as a production designer and art director to date. At the Academy Awards in 1980 he was nominated for the Oscar for the best production design for the first time, together with Michael Seymour , Leslie Dilley and Roger Christian for Alien - The uncanny creature from a strange world (1979).

In 1993 he and Luciana Arrighi received this Oscar for the production design in Howards End (1992). Together with Luciana Arrighi, he was nominated two more times for the Oscar for the best production design: on the one hand in 1994 for Was vom Tage Left (1993), on the other hand at the 2000 Academy Awards for Anna and the King (1999).

Ian Whittaker has also worked in television productions and received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Art Direction in the HBO- produced television film Into the Storm (2009) at the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards with Luciana Arrighi and Paul Ghirardani .

Other well-known films with sets designed by him were Highlander - There Can Only Be One (1986) and Sense and Sensibility (1995).
