Iberoamericana Vervuert is an independent, scientific specialist publisher based in Madrid and Frankfurt am Main . He specializes in publications on Ibero-American cultures and countries (including Spain and Portugal).

In addition to its publishing activities, Iberoamericana Vervuert is also a supplier of books from Spain, Latin America and Portugal, specializing in academic libraries around the world.

History and publisher profile

The publishing house was founded in 1977 in Frankfurt am Main by Klaus Dieter Vervuert (1945–2017). He had already started importing and distributing publications from Spain and Latin America two years earlier.

Around 75 titles appear annually on the history, literature, art and language of Latin America, Spain and, to a lesser extent, Portugal. In addition, two journals are published, the Iberoamericana. América Latina - España - Portugal. Ensayos sobre letras, historia y sociedad and the semi-annual magazine Revista Internacional de Lingüística Iberoamericana .

The Madrid branch has existed since 1996, and since 2004 the publishing house has been running the Librería Iberoamericana bookstore in the Huertas “writers' quarter” there .

One focus of the publishing and bookselling activities is on international scientific and cultural exchange.

Premio de Ensayo Hispánico Klaus D. Vervuert

In 2019, the Premio de Ensayo Hispánico Klaus D. Vervuert was awarded for the first time, which is awarded every two years in coordination with the Instituto Cervantes to a previously unpublished humanities thesis in the field of Hispanic or Latin American studies.
