IceWM is in C ++ programmed under LGPL standing window manager for the X11 - window system . The goal of IceWM is speed, simplicity and user-friendliness (“not getting in the user's way”).
However, IceWM provides some applets with which, for example, CPU load and data traffic can be monitored. Additional applets provide a quick overview of the remaining battery life, date / time and the status of the mailbox .
Properties such as keyboard shortcuts and appearance can be changed using settings in text files. Furthermore, the appearance can be changed by installing additional themes .
The popularity of IceWM skyrocketed in 2007 when Asus introduced its Eee PC , which became a big seller. The device is a mini notebook on which a Linux from Xandros with IceWM is pre-installed.
