ice-watch is a Belgian brand launched in 2007 to market Chinese watches, developed by the Belgian Jean-Pierre Lutgen and the Chinese-born fashion designer Polly Yu So. The watches are made in Shenzhen ; Hong Kong Ice Watches is responsible for global sales .
history
The brand originated in the Belgian region of Bastogne in 2007. The marketing company was able to raise the lack of capital through prepayments from customers; In 2009, 330,000 watches in China could be ordered in this way for one million euros. That meant a five-fold increase in orders. By the beginning of 2011, a total of more than 1.7 million watches between 59 and 189 euros could be sold. In 2014, sales outlets in 80 countries and 14 authorized web shops sold these watches as fashion accessories.
Litigation

The Swiss watch manufacturer is of the opinion that the name ice-watch was chosen to be confused with the similar-sounding brand swatch . ("iSwatch" is also their protected name). The scope and design of the collection also suggest that it was copied. Therefore, in May 2008, a “delimitation agreement” was concluded that stipulates the extent to which both companies may use their respective brands. Swatch believed that the agreement had not been respected, but only partially succeeded in a number of court decisions.
Lego
After the clocks were sold in colorful, cuboid boxes with knobs on the top, the Danish toy manufacturer Lego filed a lawsuit against ice watch and demanded that the packaging be changed. If ice watch does not comply with this requirement, the watch manufacturer should pay a fine of 200 euros per packaging and 10,000 euros per day of sale. Lego got right by the commercial court in Brussels on December 5, 2011. The appeal confirmed the stop of the too similar packaging.
