I want fun is a musical with songs from the New German Wave from the 1980s. The world premiere took place on October 5, 2008 in Essen , where the musical was performed in the Colosseum Theater until July 26, 2009.
The piece is based on the Dutch musical Doe Maar! (with music by the band of the same name), which also takes place in the 80s and has similar storylines and characters.

Cleo and Rosi dream of a journey into the big wide world after their high school graduation. Both are in love with the girl hero Ritch and so soon conflicts arise in their friendship. Cleo wins the love of the philanderer, who is deep down in search of himself and has to support his younger brother Tommie as they grow up without parents.
Meanwhile, Doris and Herbert, Rosi's parents, split up. Herbert moves in with Flora, Cleo's mother, who is strongly committed to social protests and peace activism. Here, too, there are conflicts between the hippie and the strictly conservative.
Then after a long time Ritch's father Falk, a globetrotter, reappears and chaos is inevitable. Ritch doesn't want to be told, because he and his brother got along well without their father, while Falk tries to be a good father again.
Cleo becomes pregnant and the great journey to the Himalayas seems to be a long way off. Ritch is also facing a major stroke of fate, because his father, with whom he has now made up, dies.
Now everything seems to be lost, but with combined forces the threads are tied again and there is a happy ending .
