The Ida-Boy-Ed-Garten is a street in Lübeck's old town .

location

The approximately 90 meter long Ida Boy Ed Garden is located on the northern tip of the old town island, in front of the castle gate . The road leading up the slope in an arch through a green area connects the Wakenitz wall with the Burgtorbrücke .

history

Today's Ida Boy Ed garden was originally created as an extension of the Wakenitz wall. In 1903 , a gate with a large arch for the passage of the street and two smaller side openings for pedestrians was broken into the preserved part of the medieval city wall , on which the Wakenitz wall began at the confluence of the Kaiserstraße , in order to accommodate the newly built houses in this area to create a direct path to the Burgtorbrücke and thus to the Burgfeld .

In 1952, this short section of the Wakenitzmauer became a street in its own right and was given a new name in honor of the writer Ida Boy-Ed , who lived in a city apartment of honor next to the castle gate from 1912 until her death in 1928, in the immediate vicinity of Ida-Boy-Ed -Garden.

This did not result in any changes in the sequence of house numbers on the Wakenitz Wall, as there were no buildings on the stretch of road between the gate opening and the Burgtorbrücke, then as now.
