Idaia (daughter of Dardanos)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Idaia ( Greek  Ἰδαία ) is a female figure in Greek mythology .

Idaia was the great-granddaughter of the nymph of the same name , daughter of the Scythian king Dardanos and second wife of the Thracian king Phineus , who resided at Salmydessus , from whom she became the mother of Thynios and Mariandynos . She made lying accusations against her step-sons Plexippus and Pandion , whom Phineus had received from his first wife Cleopatra . As a result, Plexippus and Pandion were held captive and tortured by their father, but were eventually freed by the Argonauts . Those who had been mistreated for so long now wanted to take revenge on their stepmother, but Heracles advised against it. Instead, Idaia was sent back to Scythia and her father left her punishment. Dardanos then had his daughter killed because of her wickedness.
