Ludwig Bürchner

Ludwig Bürchner (born November 29, 1858 in Landshut ; † September 1, 1927 in Munich ) was a German ancient historian and high school teacher .

Life

Ludwig Bürchner studied history and classical philology at the University of Erlangen and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He then went to the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich, where he was appointed high school professor. In 1903 the Austrian Archaeological Institute selected him as a corresponding member .

Bürchner has been concerned with the historical geography of the Mediterranean countries and the Middle East since his studies . He published his research results in several essays and hundreds of articles, which he wrote for the Realencyclopedia of Classical Classical Studies since 1894 . His studies were often based on autopsy , as he traveled several times to Greece and Asia Minor . The Greek government under George I awarded him in 1908 the Officer's Cross of the Order of Savior . Bürchner was also an honorary citizen of Tigani on the island of Samos .
