Ifan Williams (cellist)

Ifan Williams (born July 10, 1945 in Halifax / Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian cellist and music teacher.

The son of violinist Ifan Williams studied with Edward Bisha from 1958 to 1964 and at the Manhattan School of Music from 1964 to 1966 . From 1961 to 1962 he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada . In England he was the cellist of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (1967), the New Philharmonia of London (1968) and the London Symphony Orchestra (1969).

On his return to Canada in 1970 he became principal cellist with the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra , the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and the Startford Ensemble . As a chamber musician, he was a member of the Classical Quartet of Montreal , the Musica Camerata Montreal , the Canadian Chamber Ensemble and the Brunswick String Quartet . He was artist in residence at the University of New Brunswick , professor of cello at Mount Allison University and the Ecole Normale de Musique in Montreal, director of the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts and the Musique Royal and Opera Nova Scotia .
