The igm Robotic Systems AG is an Austrian manufacturer of robots. The company is part of the Global Welding Group from Wiener Neudorf .

Company history

The company was founded in 1967 by the two engineers Günther Kloimüller and Franz Vokurka as a trading company for the sale of welding technology products under the name igm Industriegeräte- und Maschinenfabriks GmbH in Vienna. In 1975 the company moved to the newly established location in the Wiener Neudorf industrial area. The entry into robot welding technology began in 1979 with the development of a two-arm robot (LIMAT 2000). For this development, the company received the Austrian State Prize for Innovation in 1981 . In February 1989 the company name was changed to igm Robotersysteme AG and the stock corporation went public . In 1995, Steigerwald Strahltechnik , based in Puchheim near Munich , was taken over. Two years later, 67% of Oxytechnik GmbH in Bad Soden was taken over.

Erhard Grossnigg's holding company took over 90% of the igm shares in January 2005. For this reason, the company withdrew from the stock exchange that same year. Since 2006, the newly founded Global Welding Group has acted as a holding company for the robotics, electron beam welding, orbital welding and strip welding business areas. In March 2016, Erhard Grossnigg announced that he would withdraw from the business.
