Septeto Nacional

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Septeto Nacional or the Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Piñeiro is a music group that developed Son music after the Sexteto Habanero . She added the trumpet to percussion , vocals, and string instruments . The group began as a sextet in Havana in 1927 . In 1929 she played at the World Exhibition in Seville and in 1933 at the World Exhibition in Chicago . In the same year Lázaro Herrera took over the group because Ignacio Piñeiro (1888–1969) left for financial reasons - despite their success, the musicians earned very little. The group disbanded in 1937, but got together for recordings in 1940 and for a television appearance in 1954. After the Cuban Revolution of 1959, the group played again and continues to do so today. Her CD Poetas del Son was nominated for a Grammy in 2004.
