Igor Georgievich rubles

Igor Georgievich rubles ( Russian Игорь Георгиевич Рубель * 25 August 1933 ; † 4. April 1963 at Urachtscha, Rajon Pestretschinski, Tatar ASSR ) was a Soviet chess players . He was the master of sports of the USSR since 1958.

Life

Rubel learned to play chess during his school days and was a candidate for a master craftsman in 1955 . His coach was Andrei Batuev. After finishing school, he graduated from the Leningrad Technological Institute. He then worked as an engineer at the "Gipronikel" institute and began distance learning at the Polytechnic Institute at the same time .

In 1956 he took part in the All-Union folk tournament on the occasion of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR , in which, according to official information, more than 600,000 players were at the start. Rubel shared second place in the final with Isaak Boleslawski , Wladimir Makogonow and Marks Pasmans, while the victory went to Jānis Kņaviņš. In 1958 Rubel won the Leningrad City Championship with 12.5 points out of 17, exceeding the norm for the title of national champion . At the next city championship, which was won by Boris Spasski , he came in sixth place. In the semifinals of the XXVII. Championship of the USSR in 1959 in Chelyabinsk , he shared ninth place with Alexander Tscherepkow. According to the assessment of the experts present on site, he showed himself to be a good tactician who, due to a lack of technique, had difficulties in exploiting the advantage achieved.

Rubel was killed on April 4, 1963 as one of the 67 occupants on Aeroflot flight 25 after the thrust reverser in an engine was activated automatically.
