Igor Evgenyevich Levitin
Igor Evgenjewitsch Lewitin ( Russian Игорь Евгеньевич Левитин ; born February 21, 1952 in Zebrykowe near Odessa , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician . From May 2004 to May 2012 he was Minister of Transport in the Government of the Russian Federation .
Levitin graduated from the Leningrad Military School for Railroad Troops in 1973 and initially had a military career in the railroad troops of the Soviet Army ; he was stationed in the Ukrainian SSR , in Hungary and on the Baikal-Amur Mainline. In 1983 he graduated from the Military Academy of Logistics and Transportation with an engineering degree.
In 1994 Levitin left the army with the rank of colonel. In 1998 he became Deputy General Director of Sewerstaltrans , the transport company of the Severstal metallurgy group .
On March 9, 2004 Levitin was appointed Minister of Telecommunications and Transport, since May 20, 2004 he was Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation. He held this office until May 21, 2012, when the new government under Dmitry Medvedev was sworn in. His successor was Maxim Sokolov . He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Aeroflot and CEO of Sheremetyevo Airport .
