Il Passatore ( Italian for the ferryman ), more rarely: il Passator cortese (civil: Stefano Pelloni , born August 4, 1824 in Boncellino di Bagnacavallo ; † March 23, 1851 in Russi ) was a famous brigand in Romagna around 1850 . After his death he was in his home to folk hero and namesake .

Pelloni attended a private school for two years and first became a ferry boatman, later he earned his living as a bandit. In 1848/9 he was imprisoned in Bagnacavallo , from which he successfully broke out. As a result he became famous for his brigandism. He died three years later in an exchange of fire with the gendarmerie. His body was demonstratively dragged through the streets of his homeland.

Today, il Passatore is the namesake for some products from the region, including wines and the famous endurance race 100 Km del Passatore from Florence to Faenza .
