Ilan Shor (born March 6, 1987 in Tel Aviv-Jaffa , Israel ; Russian Илан Миронович Шор ), also Ilan Șor, is a Moldovan businessman and politician. He is the chairman of the Shor party of the same name and was Mayor of Orhei from 2015 to 2019 .

He was sentenced to 7.5 years' imprisonment for his involvement in a bank robbery that stole over US $ 700 million , which has not yet been carried out on appeal. He is currently believed to be in Israel to avoid his sentence.

Life

Ilan Shor was born on March 6, 1987 in Israel to Miron and Maria Shor. His parents were Moldovan Jews from Chișinău who moved to Israel in the late 1970s. The family returned to Chișinău around 1990, where his father became an entrepreneur. In an interview he reported that at the age of 13 he set up his first own business with a mobile phone shop. Ilan Shor owns several Moldovan companies, including a company called Dufremol and FC Milsami football club . In 2014 he became chairman of the board of the Moldavian savings bank .

Firms Ilan Shor is associated with reportedly benefited, either directly or indirectly, from loans from three banks involved in the Moldovan bank fraud scandal in 2014. In the week leading up to the Moldovan general election in 2014 , between November 24 and 26, more than $ 750 million (up to $ 1 billion according to other sources) was stolen from the three banks and transferred to front company accounts in Hong Kong and the Transferred to the United Kingdom . A van was stolen and burned on November 27 while carrying 12 bags of bank records. Records of many transactions have been cleared from banks' computers. On November 26, 2014, the banks went bankrupt and were later placed under the special administration of the National Bank of Moldova . On November 27, the Moldovan government, led by Prime Minister Iurie Leancă , decided to covertly bail out the three banks with emergency loans of US $ 870 million from state reserves. This led to a public finance deficit in Moldova, which was one eighth of the country's gross domestic product .

In March 2015, the National Anti-Corruption Center (NAC) suspected Ilan Shor of being involved in the bank robbery because of his work at the Moldovan savings bank. On March 17, 2015, he was questioned for 8 hours and anti-corruption officials confiscated his personal property. On May 6, 2015, Shor was placed under house arrest. From 2015 Shor is allowed to move freely after a phase of house arrest. Nevertheless, he was allowed to register for the election campaign for the mayor of Orhei . On June 14, 2015, he was elected mayor with 62% of the vote and held this office until April 2019. In February 2019, he became a member of the Moldovan parliament for the Șor party , of which he is chairman.

Personal

Ilan Shor has been married to the Russian singer Jasmin since 2011 . In addition to Jasmin's son from a previous marriage, they have two children of their own.
